Courses offered by BTEC/ EDEXCEL
Level 1 BTEC/ Edexcel n/a
Level 2 BTEC/ Edexcel First Diploma in Floristry (FD) FT/PT An all-round course for school leavers &/or mature students. Similar to City & Guilds NCF, but less practical & with more emphasis on developing the basic academic skills needed by a trainee florist.
On completion you could progress to level 3.
Level 3 BTEC/ Edexcel National Diploma in Floristry (ND) FT/PT A well balanced course for students, with or without prior experience, seeking an academic study route.
Business and Design routes are available. The course normally takes two years to complete & focuses on intermediate floristry skills and knowledge.
On completion you could progress to level 4.
(BTEC ‘National Certificate’ & ‘National Award’ courses are also available but cover a narrower range of subject areas).
Level 4 BTEC/ Edexcel& University Higher National Certificate (HNC) PT HNC’s are intended to offer advanced technical training to experienced students. Florists should normally be employed & should expect to develop advanced practical skills alongside supervisory and management training.
On completion you could progress to a HND or Foundation Degree.
Level 4 BTEC/ Edexcel & University Higher National Diploma (HND) FT/PT Normally offered full-time over two years, this route is suitable for students with strong academic skills seeking a fast-track route to a floristry career in management. Entry requirements can vary, although those with prior floristry experience will have a significant advantage. On completion you could progress to a full Degree at University, although relatively few centres offer this at present.
Level 4 BTec/ Edexcel & University Foundation Degree FT/PT Very similar to HNC/D, but with the addition of compulsory work experience. This route is becoming increasingly popular and direct entry is sometimes possible. On completion you could progress to a full Degree at University, although relatively few centres offer this at present.
Level 5 BTec/ Edexcel & University Degree FT/PT Students completing a Foundation Degree may wish to top-up their award to a full Degree by undertaking additional study. Degree level qualifications emphasise development of academic / research skills and facilitate career development within the wider land based / floricultural sector.
For those seeking to complete their professional floristry training the NPTC Level 5 Master Diploma in Professional Floristry should also be considered.
